TV Icon And Grammy Winner Warner Dies In Apparent Drowning Incident

Posted on July 23, 2025 By admin

Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner has reportedly died at the age of 54 after drowning off the coast of Costa Rica.

Authorities confirmed that Warner was swimming near Cocles Beach in Limón on Sunday, July 20, when he was

caught in a strong current. His body was recovered later that afternoon, and hypoxia was determined as the cause of death.

Best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, Warner starred in all eight seasons of the

groundbreaking sitcom from 1984 to 1992, earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

He later appeared in the 1990s series Malcolm & Eddie and, more recently, in the Fox medical drama The Resident.

In a 2023 interview with People, Warner reflected on the legacy of The Cosby Show. He described the show’s power

in its universality, noting that while it focused on a Black family, it resonated with all audiences.

He acknowledged the show’s reputation was affected by Bill Cosby’s legal troubles but maintained pride in its cultural impact.

“We share a unique experience that keeps us lovingly bonded,” Warner said, adding that the cast still cherishes being part of a show that influenced both Black and American culture.
