Return of strong winds to Los Angeles threatens area’s fight against fires

Posted on January 15, 2025 By admin

At least 24 people are dead, and over a dozen remain missing

as wildfires rage across Southern California. Severe drought

and strong Santa Ana winds have created a “particularly dangerous

situation,” leaving fire crews struggling to contain the devastation.

A red flag warning, effective from 4 a.m. Tuesday to noon Wednesday,

covers large parts of L.A. and Ventura counties. Weather officials

forecast winds between 45-70 mph and relative humidity as low as 8%, which could worsen the fires.

The Palisades Fire remains outside the warning zone, but the Eaton Fire

in the Altadena area lies dangerously close. Strong winds are expected

to fan existing flames, increasing challenges for containment efforts.

Authorities urge residents to stay vigilant as conditions are primed for

the fires to spread further, threatening lives and property.
