Congressional Staffer Regina Santos-Aviles Remembered After Passing at 35

Posted on September 20, 2025 By admin

The Uvalde community is mourning the loss of Regina Santos-Aviles, a 35-year-old congressional staffer for U.S. Representative Tony Gonzales. She was taken to a San Antonio hospital after being found seriously injured outside her home and later passed away. Authorities, including the Texas Rangers and Uvalde Police Department, have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

Santos-Aviles had served as regional district director for Rep. Gonzales’ office since November 2021. In this role, she worked to help local communities access resources and development opportunities, becoming a trusted figure in the district. Rep. Gonzales expressed his grief in a statement, noting that she “devoted her profession toward making a difference” and would be remembered for her passion and dedication to public service.

Police Chief Homer E. Delgado confirmed that while there is no indication of foul play at this time, all unexplained deaths are subject to routine investigation. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office is conducting a full review, with results expected in the coming weeks. Family members are fully cooperating with authorities during this process, and updates will be shared when available.

Friends and colleagues describe Santos-Aviles as a devoted mother, a kind friend, and someone whose laughter and warmth could brighten any room. Though her passing has left a deep void in her community, her legacy of compassion and service continues to inspire those who knew her
