In a last-minute move to protect allies from potential repercussions under President-elect Donald Trump, President Joe Biden granted clemency to a select group, including former Congresswoman Liz Cheney and Dr. Anthony Fauci. Biden’s aides said the pardons aimed to shield them from retaliation,

However, legal experts noted that the pardons do not prevent either from being compelled to testify under oath if subpoenaed. Federal attorney Jesse Binnall emphasized that the pardons wouldn’t protect Cheney or Fauci from facing consequences if they lie during testimony, potentially leaving them vulnerable to prosecution.
