Always Do This at the Sink Before You Leave

Posted on July 30, 2025 By admin

Before heading out on vacation, we’re usually meticulous—locking doors, adjusting thermostats, emptying the fridge.

But in our rush to prepare, there’s one small area that’s often ignored: the kitchen sink. It may look clean,

but overlooking it can lead to big problems. And by the time you smell it, it’s already too late.

That innocent-looking drain can become a breeding ground for odors, mold, and even bugs.

Food remnants in the disposal rot. Water in the drain trap evaporates, letting sewer gases or pests creep in.

A dripping faucet? That’s enough to attract insects or worse. All while you’re miles away, unaware.

Thankfully, the fix is simple. Run cold water and ice or citrus through the disposal to clean it out.

Flush the drain with baking soda and vinegar, followed by hot water. For long trips, a splash of mineral oil keeps the trap from drying out.

Wipe everything down, and check for small leaks before you go.

This quick routine takes five minutes but protects your home from an awful welcome-back. Add it to your travel checklist—

because a fresh, clean kitchen is the kind of homecoming you deserve. A little prevention now means peace of mind later.
