In a rare moment of bipartisan unity, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 409\u20132 to pass the\u00a0TAKE IT DOWN Act<\/em>, which has now been signed into law. The legislation directly addresses the growing spread of nonconsensual intimate imagery, including AI-generated deepfakes, marking one of the most significant federal steps to date in the fight against digital exploitation.<\/p>\n

The law makes it a federal crime to knowingly create or share explicit images or videos of a person without their consent, whether the content is real or artificially generated. In addition, starting in 2026, major online platforms will be required to implement systems allowing victims to request swift removal of harmful content, closing a gap that has left many survivors without meaningful recourse.<\/p>\n
