That\u2019s when she saw him.
\nHuddled on the bench near the ambulance bay was an older man wrapped in a tattered hoodie, trembling in the cold.
\nHe didn\u2019t ask for anything.
\nJust sat there, silently, his eyes on the pavement.
\nAva hesitated\u2014then slipped off the clean blanket she always kept in her locker and walked over.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ll freeze out here,\u201d she said softly, draping it around his shoulders.
\nHe looked up slowly, like no one had spoken to him kindly in years.
\n\u201cI\u2019m not sick,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cDidn\u2019t want to cause trouble.\u201d
\n\u201cYou\u2019re not,\u201d she said with a small smile.
\n\u201cBut everyone deserves to be warm.\u201d
\nHe didn\u2019t say much after that.
