Her patrol car went out of control while attempting to make a traffic stop.<\/p>\n<p>Officer Phylicia Carson, 33, of the Osage Beach Police Department, was on duty around 1:20 a.m. Sunday when she noticed a vehicle speeding on a rural road in Camden County, near the Lake of the Ozarks, according to Chief Todd Davis in a\u00a0press conference\u00a0held Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Carson activated her emergency lights and began to follow the suspect to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver accelerated and fled. During the chase, Carson lost control of her patrol car, veering off the road and crashing into a tree.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ob-readmore-th-position\">Chief Davis reported that upon impact, the patrol car burst into flames.<\/p>\n<p>The department received a report of a vehicle on fire along the highway where Officer Carson was pursuing the suspect. Attempts to reach her were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOfficer Carson lost her life in the crash,\u201d Chief Todd Davis said, his voice breaking as he wiped away tears.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect, 23-year-old Christopher Aaron Bishop Wehmeyer, crashed just minutes after Carson while trying to flee and was arrested later, per the police.<\/p>\n<div class=\"media-credit-container alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20828\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyspire.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1KmiUQ66d61d7a7eeaa9.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailyspire.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1KmiUQ66d61d7a7eeaa9.jpg 750w, https:\/\/dailyspire.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/1KmiUQ66d61d7a7eeaa9-300x169.jpg 300w\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"media-credit-container alignnone\"><span class=\"media-credit\">Camden County Sheriff\u2019s Department<\/span><\/div>\n<p>Officer Carson had joined the department in June 2023. She is survived by her husband, Grant Carson, and her six\u00a0children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease keep the Carson\u00a0family, our Department, and our community in your thoughts and prayers as we work through this tragic event,\u201d Davis said.<\/p>\n<p>This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0sheriff records, the suspect has been charged with resisting arrest, attempting to flee\u00a0 and the death of a police officer.
