{"id":14237,"date":"2024-08-25T11:49:38","date_gmt":"2024-08-25T11:49:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storypress.site\/?p=14237"},"modified":"2024-08-25T11:49:38","modified_gmt":"2024-08-25T11:49:38","slug":"at-74-jay-leno-planning-for-death-leaves-chunk-of-cash-to-cars-no-one-lives-forever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storypress.site\/?p=14237","title":{"rendered":"At 74, Jay Leno planning for death, leaves chunk of cash to cars \u2013 \u2018no one lives forever\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After decades of holding the spotlight as the host of late night TV, Jay Leno is preparing for his final curtain call.<\/p>\n<p>The 74-year-old auto enthusiast is making end of life arrangements and leaving behind a chunk of cash to a museum that honors cars, a passion that almost killed him twice.<\/p>\n<p>Keep reading to learn what the comedian is planning!<\/p>\n<p>After leaving behind his successful career as the host of late-night talk shows, Jay Leno launched a web series on nbc.com (2015 to 2022) about cars.<\/p>\n<p>Jay Leno\u2019s Garage, now appearing to more than 3.7 million subscribers on YouTube, allows the comedian to share his passion for cars and bikes with his audience.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2022, the former Tonight Show host was badly burned when a fire broke out in his Burbank, California garage.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fjaylenosgarage%2Fphotos%2Fa.141559599209685%2F5874366465928941%2F%3Ftype%3D3&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"424\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\" data-origwidth=\"500\" data-origheight=\"424\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got some serious burns from a gasoline fire.\u201d Leno told Variety at the time \u201cI am OK. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, the now 74-year-old man was working under a car when the fire sparked. He suffered third degree burns on his face and got a new left ear after losing his first one to the fire.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, his luck didn\u2019t get any better.<\/p>\n<p>Only two months after the fire, he suffered a broken collarbone, two cracked ribs and two cracked kneecaps in a motorcycle accident.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Treats Mavis like gold\u2019<br \/>\nDespite his body breaking down with aging, passion-related accidents and high cholesterol, the one thing that holds strong in his life is his love for Mavis, who he married in 1980.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always tell guys when they meet a woman, \u2018Marry your conscience. Marry someone who\u2019s the person you wish you could be and it works out okay.\u201d Leno tells People of his enduring love with Mavis, now 77.<\/p>\n<p>After 45 years together, the childless couple started facing some hardships.<\/p>\n<p>Mavis was diagnosed with dementia and her condition is rapidly declining.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2024, Leno was granted a conservatorship over his wife\u2019s estate by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge who ruled the measure was \u201cnecessary and appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, \u201cMavis has been progressively losing capacity and orientation to space and time for several years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The filing also says and \u201cJay is fully capable of continuing support for Mavis\u2019 physical and financial needs, as he has throughout their marriage,\u201d but her \u201ccurrent condition renders her incapable of executing the estate plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Included in the documents is a statement from her neurologist Dr. Cohen: \u201cSometimes [Mavis] does not know her husband, Jay, nor her date of birth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cohen, Mavis\u2019 attending doctor at Cedars Sinai, adds that Leno \u201cloves his wife very much\u201d and \u201ctreats [Mavis] like gold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018No one lives forever\u2019<br \/>\nOnly months later, In Touch reports that Leno is now preparing for his own death, making end-of-life arrangements so his fortunes are delivered to the rightful beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fjayleno%2Fphotos%2Fa.10154239858613294%2F10154239858193294%2F%3Ftype%3D3&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"610\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\" data-origwidth=\"500\" data-origheight=\"610\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The filing reads: \u201cNo one lives forever, and the actions taken by Mr. Leno are reasonable and necessary for his and Mavis\u2019 protection. Mavis does not object to the petition and in my opinion consents to it. Mr. Leno is her protector, and she trusts him. This estate planning is in her best interest and protects her interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leno\u2019s latest filing details provisions for Mavis\u2019 care and discloses that the couple intends to stay in their home \u201cfor as long as reasonably possible,\u201d using their money for \u201cassistance from household employees or caregivers as may be necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If Leno dies first, \u201cthe estate will divide into the Leno Marital Trust\u2026it will have the Leno Collection and any real property housing Leno Collection. It will be irrevocable, and the survivor receives all income, plus principal for reasonable support. After the survivor\u2019s death, after-tax balance will be distributed, along with the Leno Trust to JDM.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Leno Collection is Leno\u2019s collection of automobiles and motorcycles, that\u2019s valued at more than $52 million, and any real property.<\/p>\n<p>Leno also instructed the JDM Foundation, a charity he launched in 1988, to open a museum with his automobile collection, and he\u2019s already named the three initial directors.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Leno is leaving $7 million to Mavis\u2019 brother Rikki Nicholson, who lives next door, and to his nephew Richard Leno.<\/p>\n<p>The court-appointed official said Leno\u2019s amendments to the trust will likely be approved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After decades of holding the spotlight as the host of late night TV, Jay Leno is preparing for his final curtain call.
