Dawn Wells, best known for her iconic role as Mary Ann Summers on the beloved television series “Gilligan’s Island,” had a career that spanned decades. Born on October 18, 1938, in Reno, Nevada, Dawn was the only child of her parents. Her father ran a local construction company, while her mother was a homemaker. Growing up, Dawn attended Reno High School before pursuing a degree in chemistry. However, her passion for the arts led her to switch her major to Theater Arts and Design.

Dawn’s journey to stardom began when she entered the world of pageantry. In 1958, she was crowned Miss Nevada and went on to represent her state in the Miss America pageant the following year.
