Add This to Your Mop Water for Floors That Stay Fresh Longer

A cleaning expert recently shared a straightforward method to help floors stay fresh and dust-free, especially during hot summer months. The key is preparing the surface properly and using a simple homemade mixture that makes mopping more effective.

The first step is to sweep thoroughly before mopping. Removing loose dirt, crumbs, and dust ensures that the floor gets a smooth and polished finish. Skipping this step often leaves streaks behind, making it harder to achieve a clean look.

Next, prepare the solution in a bucket of water. Add a pinch of salt to speed up drying, a small amount of dish soap to cut through grease, vinegar or lemon juice to help lift stains, a splash of rubbing alcohol to freshen surfaces, baking soda to neutralize odors, and a little fabric softener to reduce static so dust won’t cling as quickly. Stir until the ingredients are fully blended.

Finally, mop the floor as usual using the mixture. This simple routine helps reduce odors, loosen stains, and keep dust from settling back too quickly. By combining everyday household items, this method leaves floors looking brighter, feeling fresher, and easier to maintain with less effort.
