Pain On The Left Side Of The Body: See What it could mean!

Abdominal pain is common and can range from mild to serious. Its location often offers clues to the cause.

Left Side Pain
Lower left: May signal diverticulitis (sharp pain, fever), IBS (bloating, cramping), or gas/constipation.

Upper left: Could stem from pancreatitis (pain to back, nausea), gastritis/ulcers (burning pain),

enlarged spleen, kidney issues (stones, infection), or even heart/lung conditions.

Right Side Pain
Lower right: Often linked to appendicitis (sharp pain, fever), or in women, ovarian issues (cysts, ectopic pregnancy).

Upper right: May involve liver problems (hepatitis, tumors), gallbladder issues (stones, pain after fatty meals), kidney issues, or duodenal ulcers.

See a doctor if you have:

Persistent or severe pain

Vomiting (especially with blood)

Fever, dehydration, or jaundice

Weight loss, abdominal swelling, or pain during pregnancy

Blood in stool/vomit

Call 911 if:

Pain is sudden, intense, or worsening

Accompanied by chest pain, fainting, or signs of shock

Follows injury or prevents passing gas/stool

Serious symptoms shouldn’t be ignored. Knowing pain location helps get the right care quickly.
