‘Boston Public’ and ‘Dazed and Confused’ Star Passed Away At 54

Actor Nicky Katt Dies by Suicide at 54

Nicky Katt, known for his roles in Dazed and Confused, Boiler Room, and Boston Public, has died by suicide at age 54.

Law enforcement confirmed he died by hanging, with no note found. His body was discovered several days after his death.

His sister, Elise Ravenscroft, shared, “He died by suicide after battling depression—one he fought

bravely but quietly. Mental illness is real, powerful, and often invisible.”

Born May 11, 1970, in South Dakota, Katt began acting at age seven with roles in CHiPs, Quincy, M.E., and Father Murphy.

He later gained fame for playing intense or antagonistic characters, including Clint in Dazed and Confused (1993), Billy Ray Cobb

in A Time to Kill (1996), and Greg in Boiler Room (2000). He earned critical praise as teacher Harry Senate in Boston Public (2000–2002).

Katt worked with top directors like Richard Linklater, Steven Soderbergh, Christopher Nolan,

and Robert Rodriguez. He also voiced Atton Rand in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II.

Attorney John Sloss confirmed the news to TheWrap. Katt was previously married to Annie Morse (1999–2001).

His death highlights the urgent need for mental health awareness and compassion.
