If I had known this trick before using the spoon as a can opener

No Can Opener? No Problem—Try a Spoon

Struggling to open a can without a can opener can be incredibly frustrating—especially during power outages,

camping trips, or emergencies. But there’s a surprisingly effective solution using something nearly everyone has: a spoon.

It might sound like a trick from a survival guide, but this method genuinely works with a bit of patience.

The key is to use a sturdy metal spoon—not plastic—and a steady hand. Place the can on a flat, stable surface and hold it firmly.

Then, press the edge of the spoon against the lid’s seal (where the top meets the rim) and begin rubbing back and forth with firm pressure.

Gradually, the friction will thin the metal until you pierce a small hole. From there,

continue working the spoon around the edge until you can pry the lid open completely.

It’s not as fast or clean as a can opener, but it gets the job done—making this hack ideal for unexpected situations.

It’s a great reminder that a little creativity can solve common problems, even in the kitchen.

So next time your can opener breaks or disappears, just grab a spoon. You’ll be surprised how well it works.
