As a substitute, Jill Biden passed a note to President-elect Donald Trump for his wife. “I congratulated her and I offered help,” Biden said in an interview with the Washington Post. “What would be the point of nastiness?”
Melania Trump’s absence from the event may be the first time an incoming first lady has not attended the occasion. Her office released a statement saying, “…the media continue to provide false, misleading and inaccurate information” about her absence from the event.
Melania Trump eventually thanked Jill Biden for the note when they attended former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral last Thursday.
