The U.S. Tsunami Warning System issued a warning for potential hazardous waves in the Pacific Ocean, spanning mid-Oregon to Santa Cruz.The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 0.4 miles (0.6 km), about 39 miles northwest of Petrolia in Humboldt County. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), “hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 km [186 miles] of the earthquake epicenter.” The warning excludes Hawaii.
