Celeb Has Officially Renounced His U.S. Citizenship

Just hours after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong declared during a London concert that he would renounce his U.S. citizenship. Outraged by the ruling, Armstrong criticized the U.S. as a “miserable” place and expressed reluctance to return after the band’s European tour. Despite his statements, Green Day has since performed in the U.S. and plans South American shows later this year.

The London audience responded with applause as Armstrong hinted at relocating to the U.K., saying, “You’re going to see a lot more of me.” The following night, he reiterated his frustration, exclaiming, “F the Supreme Court and America” before performing “American Idiot.”

Armstrong joins other artists, like Billie Eilish, in condemning the ruling. Eilish, during a July 2022 concert, called the day “dark” for women in the U.S. and dedicated “Your Power” to opposing the abuse of authority.
